Qamdo Bangda Airport located in the Tibet Autonomous Region HengDuan Mountains in China, which is more than 4,300 meters above sea level, 5 kilometers in length, possesses one of longest civil airport runways over the world.

 With thousands of steep mountains and gullies, the distance from Qamdo Town to Lhasa City and Chengdu City are more than 1,300 kilometers. The rough mountain road in a few days and nights bumps is Inevitable no matter where to start. To alleviate the traffic constraints on the eastern Tibetan socio-economic development, the Bangda Airport was established in 1995 with the successful maiden voyage in April. Bangda Airport is regarded as the world''''s highest, most difficult airports in the flight at present and the distance from the airport to the nearest town Qamdo is 136 kilometers which is also the furthest away from the central city of a civilian airport.

 The success of the Bangda airport navigation was miracle in the civil aviation flight history. The annual temperature in winter and spring is often over minus 30 degrees and the winter winds reach above 30 m/s, usually.  The altitude of the airport is also 60m higher than the landing high limit of Boeing airplanes in the United States. Hence, China and the United States formed a joint test group to conduct a rigorous test flight with advanced Boeing 757-200 aircraft before the maiden flight. Owing to the air density was less than 60% of Sea-level, the test group prior to reform the sealed pressure system and correct the data from tests, thus reached the maximum carrying capacity through computer simulation. The results showed that the take-off and landing load-carrying capacity of 7 57-200 Boeing aircraft were 75.9 tons and 80 tons, considerably less than the conventional design of the aircraft.
